Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
Gulp is an iOS app made by Tayler Berens (individually, "we," "us," or "our"). This policy explains what information Gulp collects, how it is used, and what choices you have. It applies to the Gulp iOS app and the Gulp website (drinkgulp.app).
2. Information stored on your device
When you use Gulp, the following information is saved locally on your iPhone using Apple's standard on-device storage (UserDefaults and app group containers shared with the widget extension). This data never leaves your device and is never transmitted to Gulp or any third party:
- Your name (optional, used only for in-app display)
- Weight, gender, and activity level (used to calculate your recommended daily goal)
- Whether you take creatine (used to adjust your hydration goal)
- Your daily hydration logs and history
- Notification preferences (start time, end time, frequency)
- App preferences (appearance mode, measurement units, quick-add presets)
- Streak and onboarding state
Deleting the app removes all of this data from your device permanently.
3. Apple HealthKit
If you choose to enable Apple Health sync in Gulp's settings, the app will write your water intake (in fluid ounces) to Apple HealthKit after each drink you log. Gulp does not read any data from HealthKit.
You can revoke Gulp's HealthKit permission at any time in the iOS Settings app under Privacy & Security → Health → Gulp.
4. Screen Time & Social Lock
Gulp's Social Lock feature uses Apple's Screen Time API (FamilyControls and ManagedSettings frameworks) to restrict access to apps you select when you miss a hydration checkpoint. Enabling Social Lock requires you to grant Screen Time authorization via a system prompt from Apple.
Gulp does not collect, read, or transmit any information about which apps are on your device, which apps are blocked, or your Screen Time usage. All Social Lock configuration is stored locally on your device and managed entirely through Apple's frameworks.
5. Notifications
Gulp sends local notifications (hydration reminders and checkpoint alerts) scheduled entirely on your device. Gulp does not use any push notification service or external server. Your notification preferences are stored locally and never transmitted.
You can manage or disable Gulp's notifications at any time in the iOS Settings app under Notifications → Gulp.
6. Subscriptions & payments
Gulp offers a Pro subscription managed through RevenueCat, a third-party subscription management platform. When you purchase or restore a subscription:
- Payment is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. Gulp never sees your payment method, card details, or Apple ID.
- RevenueCat receives an anonymous device identifier and your subscription status from Apple in order to verify your entitlements. RevenueCat does not receive your name, email, or payment details.
RevenueCat's privacy practices are described at revenuecat.com/privacy. Apple's payment privacy practices are governed by the Apple Privacy Policy.
7. Analytics & advertising
Gulp contains no analytics SDKs, crash reporters, advertising networks, or tracking libraries. We do not collect usage data, session data, device information, or behavioral data of any kind.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.
8. This website
The Gulp website (drinkgulp.app) does not use tracking cookies, advertising scripts, or analytics. It loads the Inter typeface from Google Fonts, which means Google's servers receive a standard font request that may include your IP address. Google's privacy practices are described at policies.google.com/privacy.
9. Children
Gulp is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information through the app, please contact us at the address below and we will take appropriate steps to address it.
10. Data retention & deletion
Because all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over it at all times. To delete your data:
- All app data: Delete Gulp from your device. All locally stored information is removed permanently.
- Apple Health data: Open the Health app, search for "Dietary Water," and delete any entries added by Gulp.
- Subscription records: Contact RevenueCat at privacy@revenuecat.com to request deletion of any device-associated subscription data they hold.
11. Your rights (California & other jurisdictions)
Because Gulp does not collect or store personal information on any server, most data rights requests (access, portability, deletion) are fulfilled entirely by managing data on your own device as described above.
If you are a California resident: Gulp does not sell or share your personal information as defined by the CCPA/CPRA. We do not use personal information for cross-contextual behavioral advertising.
If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland: Gulp does not transfer personal data to any servers, so no cross-border data transfers occur. The only third-party data processor is RevenueCat, which operates under standard contractual clauses.

13. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will provide additional notice within the app. Continued use of Gulp after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
